PDRN Skincare: Why Everyone Is Talking About Salmon DNA & Skin Rejuvenation

Updated: 2 hours ago

If you’ve been anywhere near skincare lately, you’ve probably heard the words PDRN, salmon DNA, Korean skincare, and skin rejuvenation everywhere.

And honestly? I get why.

At With Love Co. in Bel Air, Maryland, we've been incorporating Korean skincare and advanced PDRN protocols into customized treatments for clients looking for healthier, more hydrated, rejuvenated skin.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending a 2-day master workshop focused on Korean skincare. I came home even more obsessed with the philosophy, innovation, ingredients, and advanced protocols behind it.

We went deeper into the history of Korean skincare, advanced treatment protocols, and both innovative and tried-and-true ingredients.

One ingredient that has been around much longer than the current hype would have you believe?

So, What Exactly Is PDRN?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide, and it's a DNA-derived ingredient that has become a major topic in Korean skincare.

You'll often hear it referred to as salmon DNA because PDRN used in skincare and aesthetic applications can be derived from salmon DNA.

What I find especially interesting is that PDRN didn't just randomly appear as the newest trendy skincare ingredient.

It has a history in the medical world, particularly around tissue repair and healing, which is part of the reason it has become so interesting in aesthetics and skin rejuvenation.

So yes, the TikTok hype is new.

The ingredient itself isn't.

Korean Skincare Isn't Just “Clean Beauty”

I think there is sometimes a misconception that Korean skincare automatically means clean, natural, or gentle skincare.

That isn't necessarily the case.

Just like professional skincare here in the U.S., Korean skincare has different levels of ingredients, formulations, and potencies. There are consumer lines, professional skincare lines, and formulations that cross over into the medical skincare world.

That's one of the things I love about it.

At With Love Co., we use about 80% Korean skincare in our treatment room, because I love how innovative the formulations are and how well they can fit into a customized skin plan.

And one ingredient that has really caught my attention is PDRN.

What Does PDRN Do for the Skin?

PDRN is often incorporated into skincare and professional protocols focused on skin recovery, rejuvenation, hydration, and supporting healthier-looking skin.

I especially love it when we're working with skin that needs a little more than just a basic glow-up.

We're talking about skin that may be:

  • Depleted or compromised

  • Inflamed or acne-prone

  • Showing signs of acne scarring

  • Lacking that healthy, hydrated glow

  • Dealing with texture or fine lines

  • In need of focused rejuvenation and collagen-supporting care

And one of my favorite things about it?

The glow.

There is something about properly hydrated, healthy-looking skin that just hits differently.

But PDRN isn't a one-and-done magic ingredient. You have to support the skin at home, too.

That's where your skincare routine becomes a huge part of your results.

We carry a curated selection of professional Korean skincare products in our online shop, including products we use as part of our treatment philosophy at With Love Co.

PDRN + Spicules = A Powerhouse Combination

This is another part of Korean skincare that I am REALLY into right now.

Some of the PDRN products and professional protocols we use incorporate spicules, which are tiny, needle-like structures derived from marine sponges that can help create a delivery pathway into the skin.

This is what I find so fascinating about Korean skincare.

It's not just about finding a great ingredient.

It's about figuring out how to deliver that ingredient effectively.

Spicules are also used in protocols focused on skin renewal, texture, glow, and the appearance of fine lines.

When you combine a targeted ingredient like PDRN with a delivery system like spicules, it can become a really interesting part of a professional skin-renewal protocol.

Ingredients + technology + protocol + consistency.

Not just one magic product.

How We Use PDRN at With Love Co.

We're not just talking about PDRN as a trendy ingredient.

We're actually using it.

At With Love Co., we incorporate PDRN into different protocols depending on what someone's skin needs.

We've used it as part of treatments focused on:

Acne + inflammationSupporting the skin while addressing acne-prone and inflamed skin.

Acne scarring + textureIncorporating PDRN into advanced protocols when we're working on the appearance of acne scarring, texture, and skin renewal.

Depleted or compromised-looking skinFocusing on hydration, barrier support, rejuvenation, and overall skin health.

Collagen-supporting rejuvenationIncorporating it into advanced protocols when we're focusing on fine lines, texture, skin quality, and overall rejuvenation

PDRN in Our Treatment Room

PDRN can be incorporated into some of our more advanced treatments, including our Signature 90-minute Facial, corrective acne treatments, nano-needling protocols, and microneedling options, depending on your skin and your goals.

And this is where our Signature 90-minute Facial is such a great option.

It is an advanced, highly customizable facial that allows us to actually assess your skin once you're in the treatment room.

You'll complete a consultation form, we'll talk through your concerns and goals, and I'll evaluate what your skin needs that day.

From there, the treatment can be customized using different modalities, ingredients, and techniques — including PDRN and other Korean skincare protocols when they're appropriate for your skin.

You don't have to know exactly what your skin needs before you walk through the door. That's what we're here for.

READY TO START?

If you're curious about PDRN, Korean skincare, microneedling, nano-needling, corrective facials, or simply want to get your skin on a better plan, our Signature 90-minute Facial is a great place to start.

We'll look at your skin, your goals, what you've been using at home, and what your skin actually needs — then customize your treatment from there.

The Bottom Line?

PDRN might be having a major moment right now, but it isn't exactly a brand-new ingredient.

And that's part of what I love about it.

We're taking an ingredient with a long history in medical and regenerative applications and seeing how it can be incorporated into today's advanced skincare protocols.

For me, Korean skincare isn't about chasing every new viral ingredient.

It's about education, innovation, delivery systems, professional protocols, and creating a skin plan that actually makes sense for YOU.

That's what I'm most excited about bringing back to With Love Co. after this workshop.

More education.More advanced protocols.More intentional skincare.

And really good skin that looks like healthy skin — not just temporarily shiny skin.

With Love,
